At just 7 years
of age, while learning piano, Mick’s father and uncles said “get
that left hand moving” directing him to the Honky Tonk and Stride
Piano styles. This style of playing has stuck with Mick and he has
mastered it very well but that's not all. Mixed with, among others,
Banjo Paterson and William Blake-style poetry, Mick sure has some
interesting ingredients for song writing and this talent has certainly
become an important part of his music career.
The multi talented
Mick Buckley (Bucko) first found fame as the rockin' drummer for
the Radiators, but then returned to his childhood roots and reinvented
himself as a swingin', honky tonk piano man and successfully conquered
the U.S. Touring, Writing and Recording & playing residencies in
places like Bourbon St. New Orleans, Nashville Tennessee and capping
it off by firing up for Smokey Robinson at the Common Ground Music
Festival in Lansing Michigan.
After touring
the USA, Mick returned home to Australia and called on some old
mates from Noiseworks, The Radiators, Ted Mulry, The Buddy Holly
Show and The Patsy Cline Show to form The Yeehaa Boys. Mick has
since moved on to continue with what he loves to do best - his piano
show and writing songs. There is currently a lot of interest in
Mick's music for Artists Releases, Movies and Advertising. A performer
like Mick Buckley is often called upon to perform at larger venues,
concerts and other special events like the Gympie Muster, The Wintersun
Festival, and The Tamworth Country Music Festival and so once again
he has assembled another band called The
Road Side Attractions consisting of top quality hand
picked musicians to handle these bigger gigs.
Some
of the bands that Mick has played in and written songs for are:
The Radiators,
Mud Crab Boogie, The Yee Haa Boys, Hi Home I'm Honey, Los Garbos,
Harlem Shuffle, Hughie & The Swing Thing , Rupert B, Richard Wilkins
Band, The Swing, Top Shelf Shuffle to name just a few...
He has also
appeared on TV shows such as:
The Country Music Channel, Hey Hey It's Saturday, The Kerry Anne
Show, Rage, MAX and MTV.
Mick is simply
a great, fun entertainer, in the true sense of the statement and
he has the history to prove it.
You can't go wrong booking him for a show of any size, great entertainment
and a good fun time is guaranteed.
